Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.
  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Easy nada if you remember that all SW30's have 4's in J or N and M or Q, so F cannot be 4.

Nada. As usual with a SW30D the 4's are the key.

4X is not the key.

Mike, after the obvious first 13 cells, you would need to prove 14D!=1436 first. That's why DON said it was 'potentially harder' than usual.

In this case it's the 3X that initially solves it, not the 4X.

Aspie, I agree from a logic standpoint. But if you already know that 14D can't have a 4, you can skip that step. SW30's are always constructed the same way. No reason to ignore that fact. If we ever see on that isn't constructed that way, I will reassess.

Mike, why not skip all the steps by looking at the solution and filling it out into the grid?

Aspie, be nice. Mike is right. 4X proves that 14D can't have a 4 and away we go.

How does the grid numbering work

Anne,

26 squares lettered A to B.
Top left is A. Left to right top to bottom. Bottom right is Z.

e.g. 8A (which stands for 8 across) is squares S and T.

4x proves 14D can't have a 4, but what is it that proves there is a 4x? (answer:the 3x is what proves there is a 4x, not the assumption that this is an SW30D puzzle)

I wish there were a way to upvote Aspie's 'why not skip all the steps?' comment.
