Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
No o or p but had to go back to fix an addition error so I guess the correction keeps me from claiming nada. Nada is there for sure. 33A was the key for me.

Nada. Took some work. 32D & 33A are key.

nada. After easy solves of both 12As and the 3 in 38A, the left hand halves of 33A and 38A are all 6 and above. So, L must be less than 6. And one of RS must be 5. It can't be S, because 33A then explodes. So, R=5. Then 33A must be xxx234 or xxx135, so L=3. and so on ....

Aspie: I am not understanding how you rule out S=5. Why can't L/M be 1/2, so 33A need not explode?

Willo, good point, not sure how I worked that out (might have had a 'then a miracle occurs' step 2),

Thinking again ... 32D=26789 constrains 16A, which then can't have 79 pair in XZ, there needs to be a 68 in one of them.

But, 32D=26789 creates need for 68 cross pairs on right hand side of the two longs, 33A and 38A. These 68x's take the needed 68 away from X.

Had to read Aspie' notes to get it done
