Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Tough Nada, possibilities of 34A, is the key.

Using orphans:

1) {X,Z}={5,6}, so Y at least 7, so J at most 6. Therefore {I,J}={4,6}.

2) {X,Z}={5,6}, so V at least 7. Also by 1), G at least 7. Therefore {G,V}={7,8}.

3) 25D and 24D each requires a 3, which can occur only in the 5's across. Therefore

Willo: flaw in step 3, you have not eliminated the possibility that one of the orphans is a 3.

Joe, KS Pavankumar: could one of you post your step-by-step solution so we can all learn.

Bandit: Thank you. For the record, my mistake was to miscount the orphans and think they added to 14, not 4, which of course rules out the 3's. Then I never noticed that in my final solution, the orphans were different from what I expected. I'm glad you caught this.

Nada solution for Bandit, but with possibilities written down for clarity. Seems like a lot of chains to keep straight, but is possible in your head.
1. X/Z = 5/6, SO VWY = 789
2. IF Y=9, J=4. IF Y=8, J=4/6. IF Y=7, J=4/6. SO, I/J=4/6 AND F/G/H = 789. SINCE V=789 AND G=789, VG MUST BE More...
