Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!
Possibilities, orphans and a chain.

first 12 easy. then you have to count 7's. turns out 26A has to have a 7 therefore it's 4679. ta-da

Solve bottom right. Restrictions for A lead to filling in A, E, & D. Then can fill rest of A-G.
Bottom 2 of 21D are 56 so middle 2 are 34. Counting 7s forces J to be 3, and N is then 4. Since 26A needs a 7 it is 4679 in some order.
That forces 5 to bottom of 29D, from there it's easy.

nada, isolate the 5 on 29D

My approach started off similar to Dan's, but didn't count the 7's. After first 10 cells, R, V must be 5 or 6, S must be 8 or 9, so W cannot be 8 or 9. Must be 5. Obvious from there.

6:32. Counting 7's was key.

yup, after the first 13 easy ones, either count 7s or consider that
27A != 4689 while
26A != 3689 else breach of unique rule.

Disastrous for me - what does counting 7s mean?

Anne - when stuck, a good technique is to see how many of a certain digit must be in the acrosses and how many more might be, and compare to the downs. In this puzzle the 7 had been placed in Z, and after filling in the top row you can see that 29D, 27D, and 39D each need a 7 which means that all 3 of 15A, 27A, and 26A need a 7 in them since there are no other possible acrosses.
