Kakuro Kakuro
How to play Kakuro
Kakuro is similar to both sudoku and traditional crossword games.
Like a Crossword
Similar to crosswords, Kakuro has clues both across and down. When you put numbers in the vacant squares, the sum must equal the given clues. This is why the game is sometimes called 'cross sums'.
Like a Sudoku
Just like a sudoku, you cannot have the same number in a row or column. If a row is broken into 2 areas by a clue, then you can have the same number occuring once in each of the separate areas.

Choose a number, and place it in the grid above.

Talk about anything and everything, but nice to each other - you don't have to agree, but this is not the place for personal attacks. As Sir Paul McCartney said: 'I used to think anyone doing anything weird was weird. Now I know that it is the people that call others weird that are weird' (longer explanation). Enjoy!

Boka + 1. Sorting out the 456 in 21D was my key.

+p, saw Boka's 7's after filling it in

It's nada:

1) Fill in K.

2) Six blocks in upper left add to 28, so 4 blocks in upper right add to 25. E and J include a 6 and an 8 or 9. So D+I=10 or 11.

3) Must be a 7 in S or X, so none in D or I, so from 2), {D,I}={4,6} or {5,6}. Either way, no 6 in S or X. So 6 in More...

Boka - thanks for the key. Willo, can you explain how you figure sectional sums?

Plum: The bottom four entries in 21D are all at least 3, so the top two are {1,2} in some order.
So the six squares in the upper left are enough to make 17D, 8D, and another 1+2. That's 17+8+3=28.

The two first rows add to 26+27=53; of the ten squares involved, the six in the upper left add to 28, so the remaining four add to 53-28=25.

Etc.

Aspie: Yes, you can get the order of the 2/1 in 21D by using the unique rule, but I'm extremely averse to that.

It seems to me that if you allow the unique rule, you have to allow guessing --- because if I happen to guess the solution to the puzzle, then, by the unique rule, there can be no other solution, so I'm done. But I don't want to allow guessing, so I can't allow the unique rule.

Willo, good logic. But I don't allow myself to guess in the first place, so the first step (if I happen to guess) can't happen

if you put the 7s cross together with a 6 and an 8 have to go in each if the top 2 rows AND 1 of those rows has to have a 9, A=9 ...
